🖐 Hiya! I'm Paige.

You know, from Farmhouse Vernacular?
We might have met while I was:

  • renovating my 1905 farmhouse with my husband.
  • sharing densely packed fancy thrift hauls.
  • swooning over many dramatic room reveals.
  • canoodling with some cats.
  • tending to my (please don’t ask me how many) chickens.

I love all things history, design, and DIY.

I've picked up quite a few skills in my day — sewing, baking, chair caning, knitting, and crochet just to name a few!

But in the fall of 2020, I fell in love with canning.

What the heck is canning?

Oh, I'm SO glad you asked.

Canning is the process of preserving food in sealed glass jars.

There is a LOT more to it than that, but let me just tell you the important part.

Properly canned food can be safely stored for YEARS - without electricity.

Can you imagine having dozens of delicious, safe, ready-to-eat meals on your pantry shelves, EVEN if your power goes out?

THAT is what canning can do for you.

And that's what I want to help you learn with How to Can Food!

Why should you can?

I started canning because my mom got sick. Really sick. The end of 2020 pitched my family into absolute chaos the likes of which we had never seen.

There was so much uncertainty about my mom's health and the future of our family, I almost didn't know how to function. I was desperate for an activity that would calm me down and give me a sense of purpose.

Then I found canning. And...my mind became quiet.

As I prepped jars full of food and as my shelves became heavy, I found the sense of grounding I had been searching for.

I was doing something good.

And as my mother miraculously recovered and needed easy, simple meals, my pantry provided for us ten-fold. All that work? Completely paid off.

The love of canning stuck with me and since then, have put up over 1,000 jars of food in a year. That is a LOT of food!

I am so grateful for the peace it brought me.

And that's why I want to help YOU get the same sense of security from your own pantry.

Preparing for the Unknown

I thought canning was only in the summer. What can I can in the winter?

I thought the same thing! But when I wanted to learn to can, it was just starting to get cold out. No more fresh gardens overflowing with tomatoes and peppers.

I just wasn't willing to wait until the next harvest season. So I learned about all the wonderful things to can in the winter!
